Australian Unity Members’ Wellbeing App : Creating Engaging and Enjoyable Experiences to Support Mental Health

My Real Wellbeing app from Australian Unity is a wellness app designed to help customers(members) improve their overall well-being. It offers various features, such as assessments, personalised tips, and tools to track and improve mental, physical, and emotional health.

I started working as a native mobile app designer in the company’s Customer, Digital, and Technology Team. They had launched their first Member Motivational App and were seeking to enhance user engagement.

Problems

Users struggle to find value in the My Real Wellbeing app, leading to infrequent use despite initial engagement with the assessment. The app’s lack of clear communication and interaction fails to integrate effectively into users’ lifestyles. Additionally, the app’s demanding nature, with features like Levels and Streaks, creates a sense of pressure without offering sufficient benefits or encouragement.

Solutions

The redesigned My Real Wellbeing app offers significant value to its members by providing automated support, regular well-being tips, and a greater sense of achievement. The reorganized information architecture presents bite-sized, useful information in a simplified interface, enhancing user experience. The app’s communicational tone is friendly and engaging, guiding users throughout their journey. Additionally, the balance of give and take has been improved by removing features like “Levels,” “Streaks,” and “Frequency” and adding guides and helpful information. Introducing a Dashboard gives users a clear overview of their progress and encourages continued engagement with the app.
